Day 2 - Regrouping
The start of today's class threw me for a bit of a loop -- with the majority of the students in the class moved to another class. The immediate thoughts going through my head were: will I be able to do this course, I can't be here from Newfoundland for three weeks and only do one course; I've paid for two courses, now what? Thankfully, Barbara reassured us that whatever the other students decided as to which course they did, we would get the course. Initially with only three of us present, we decided, in consultation with Barbara, that it might be better if the course was taught in a more traditional format rather than the proposed project based learning. This was a bit disappointing but understandable. However, to our surprise and delight, three students came back to our class; so, we now have six students and the possibility of doing project based learning. And yes, we've decided to go ahead and do the project based learning. We just had to regroup. Our group now consists of Carl, Christine, and I. Coincidently, when we started to discuss the plans our separate groups had made yesterday, we were very much in line with each other in that we were both planning to do a project based on the environment. Our new group gelled really well and in no time we were 'off to the races' with a very productive afternoon. We were able to outline our project and allocate jobs for tonight. When I reflect on the events of today's class, I think it reminds me again of the ability to be flexible and make adjustments as I am so often discussing with the staffs of the schools on my inclusive education implementation plan. It's good to have some practice at what I am preaching. I'm sure I will find an opportunity to relay this experience as an example when I am discussing the ability to adjust and be flexible, sometime in the future. The class ended on a very positive note, despite the uncertainity at the beginning, with lots of motivation for future classes.
